The National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office 1 (NEDA RO1) initiated the conduct of the Target Setting Workshops for the Region 1 priority Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators. The outputs from the workshops will serve as basis in monitoring and evaluating the accomplishments of the region on the SDGs until its conclusion in 2030. The targets will also be the basis for the concerned regional line agencies (RLAs), local government units (LGUs) and other entities in implementing appropriate programs and activities in support to the attainment of the SDGs.
Phase 1 of the workshop was conducted on October 13, 2022 at NEDA RO1. The workshop was participated by the NEDA RO1 sectoral coordinators. Mr. Joseph Severo of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Office 1, discussed the accomplishments of the SDG indicators and presented the methodology for the estimation of the pace of progress of the SDG accomplishments. On the other hand, NEDA RO 1 Assistant Regional Director Irenea B. Ubungen explained the different methods and approaches in computing targets. These were used by the participants in computing the targets of the priority SDG indicators during the workshop.
Phase 2 of the workshop was conducted on November 24, 2022 at the Agora Event Center, Thunderbird Resort, San Fernando City, La Union. The SDG targets established in Phase 1 were validated and finalized during the workshop. Prior to the workshop, Mr. John Gagucas and Mr. Rey Ferreria of NEDA RO1 briefed the participants on the 17 SDGs and the computed targets from the Phase 1 workshop, respectively. Mr. Severo of PSA presented the pace of progress of the identified SDG indicators based on the initially set targets from the Phase 1 outputs. The pace of progress highlighted the goals, targets, and indicators where further action is required, and affirmed the effectiveness of the policies and programs being implemented.
Representatives of the Economic, Social, Governance, Infrastructure and Environment sectors from regional line agencies and provincial local government units joined in the workshop. Each sectoral group discussed, validated and finalized the targets for the SDG priority indicators. The SDG accomplishments and workshop outputs will be considered in the assessment and target setting for the Ilocos Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2023-2028.
